Food on Foot is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the poor and homeless of Los Angeles with nutritious meals, clothing, and assistance in the transition to employment and life off the streets. Since March of 1996, Food on Foot has operated as a volunteer-based, non-profit organization providing hot, nutritious chicken dinners, snacks, and drinks to as many as 500 homeless and poor individuals and families each week. During their weekly meal each Sunday in Hollywood, they also distribute clothing and other needed items. Their target population includes individuals of all ages, from toddlers to seniors, as well as the disabled and blind. Work for Food is a 7-day-a-week community clean-up program designed to initiate the transition from life on the streets to involvement in the workforce by picking up trash in return for $10 in food gift certificates from local fast food restaurants and grocery stores.
Food on Foot is now accepting volunteer registrations for their BIG Thanksgiving Day celebration on Thursday November 22nd. They will begin at 2:30pm sharp and the 2 hours of fun will include distributing food and back packs to over 250 homeless and poor individuals. They are expecting a visit from 110 yr. old Jessie Fairbanks who surely has a few words of thanks to all in attendance. The cost of registration is $75 per person and it is payable in advance by credit card only. The event will be held at 1625 N. Schrader in Hollywood and parking is at the site. Volunteer spaces are very limited so that each volunteer will have plenty to keep them busy for the entire 2 hour period. Register here: Register Now
